Texas R.E.S.T. volunteers are drawn from the ranks of first responders and military, active and retired. If you’ve served in fire, EMS, law enforcement, or the armed forces, you already understand what these crews are facing.

What you’ll do

Prep & Train

Keep the apparatus and gear mission ready. Familiarize yourself with what different scene types require for choice of loadout, having consumables checked and packed, and returning the rig to full in-service status after every response.

Driver / Operator

Move the apparatus from station to staging to scene. EVOC certification is required every five years and is completed during the probationary period. All Texas R.E.S.T. volunteers are required to have a valid driver's license.

Rehab Support

Staff the rehab area at the direction of Incident Command. Set up and break down the operation, hand out water and supplies, and keep the area stocked so EMS can stay focused on the medical side of rehab.

Food & Provisions

Manage and distribute refreshments on scene, at the direction of EMS or Rehab division command. For long duration events, you may be tasked with a resupply run.

Public Relations

Show up for the community beyond the incident. Volunteers represent Texas R.E.S.T. alongside fire and EMS at National Night Out, parades, touch-a-truck events, county fairs, and other pre-planned mass gatherings to stay connected with the communities we serve.

Vetted for the mission

Every prospective volunteer completes an interview, director approval, and a probationary period before full activation. Your first-responder or military background is the baseline, and the process makes sure you're the right fit for this specific mission.

On-call availability

Deployments are unscheduled by nature. We page volunteers when an incident comes in, and you respond when you're available.

Structured entry, trusted autonomy

After your probationary period, you'll be trusted to respond, set up, and operate with minimal hand-holding. We train to that standard from day one.
